Review of Bastion by Mercedes Lackey
Book 5 of the Collegium series continues the adventures of Mags and his friends.
I enjoyed this book. It was nice to find out the answer to the mystery of Mags parents, and why he was being hunted. I also appreciated the exploration of the deepening relationships between the couples and the group of friends.
Since Mags ends up in the field we get scenes of life as a Herald on the road which I always find entertaining.
If you have enjoyed the series up to this point, you will enjoy this book.
Also, the definition of the book title matching the plot makes me smile. A bastion is an institution, place, or person strongly defending or upholding particular principles, attitudes, or activities.
Having read some of the more critical reviews of this book, I must also agree that this is not the best Valdemar series Ms. Lackey has ever written. But it is still better than a significant number of books out there. In addition, I actually like the introspective scenes as a change of pace.
I give it 4 stars.
